Today I interviewed my cousin, Andrea Martinez, about her line of beauty supplies, Edan Organic. An entrepreneur, businesswoman and now a new mom, Andrea is an inspiration for women everywhere. She was born in Ecuador, but she moved here after marrying my cousin Edward. Since then, they have been traveling the country and the world. When they are not traveling, they live in an apartment in Brooklyn. In January, they welcomed a brand-new baby into the world, my new cousin, Lucas Innace.

Q: Tell us a little about the Edan Organic company in your own words. Where and how did you think of the idea?

A: I was the owner of a Medical Spa. When Covid hit, we had to close our doors for 3 months. An outrageous amount of time for any business. I had to immediately think of an idea to make money during the lockdown so I could keep paying all my employees (12 of them) and that’s how I came up with the idea of selling skin care. I already had a formula for acne-prone skin that everybody loved that we would sell at my business together with the acne treatment. I started with that but I didn’t want the products to have the same name as my medical spa so I had to think in 2 days of a new name for my products. I'm so glad I did this because I ended up selling my medical spa and working full-time for my new project, Edan Organic

Q: How do you come by the materials for the beauty supplies?

A: I studied Organic Skin Care formulation in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The "meca" of skin care and beauty. As part of my training, I was taught how to research and test the best ingredients, bases, and containers for every product.

Q: Where have you traveled to get these supplies?

A: I was born in Ecuador, South America. Every single one of our products contains an ingredient from either the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest or organic coffee from the Galapagos Islands. Every product has a story @edanorganic

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about your traveling?

A: I love traveling and I've been so lucky to have been able to see so many extraordinary places. After many years in the beauty and health industry as the owner of a Medical-Spa, I traveled to different parts of the world, that's how I came to the conclusion that despite the existence of millions of personal care, beauty, hair, and makeup products and companies every year, few times I found myself with really innovative products in the line of organic cosmetics.

Some extraordinary ingredients were completely excluded, never mentioned, and never used. I decided to contribute all my knowledge acquired in my life, visiting farms and communities all over the world looking for new products and treatments, to become a part of the industry of formulation and development of unique products for personal care and more.

Q: Tell us about the sales aspect of your job. Are there many women in the business world?

A: Fortunately every year there are more and more women in the business world and I think that is just wonderful. We are so amazing at multi-tasking. A great skill for success in the business world.

Q: What is the toughest thing you have faced in your career?

A: COVID lockdown

Q: What is the best thing about your career?

A: When my customers tell me that my products work, that they love them, and that they've done something good for their skin and their lives.

Q: What is your favorite beauty product and why?

A: I love them all, but I am particularly proud of my face serum Rejuvenating Rainforest Gel because finally, people with very sensitive skin and acne-prone skin have a go-to product that is gentle yet effective to keep their skin flawless.

My personal favorite is the Ancestral Wellness Mist Andrea got me for Christmas. A little spritz on my pillow and I immediately start feeling relaxed and sleepy, the cares of the world gone out of my head. So head on over to Edanorganic.com and pick up your own (organic) beauty supply today.
