Reasons I’m Psyched For September:
My birthday! On the 17th, I will be turning 28. It doesn’t feel like I’ve been 27 for an entire year. Last year I had an epic birthday party with games, friends and karaoke. The next day my loving boyfriend took me out to the Melting Pot for my birthday (its a fondue place). They even gave me balloons and sprinkled rose petals on the table. Birthdays are important to me. In case you haven’t picked up on that yet.
I’m going on vacation. My parents, my brother and I are all going to New Hampshire for a week. We’re on a lake with our own boats. I love boating, swimming, writing in the mountain air, playing games at night, and leaving my laptop at home along with all my responsibilities.
I’m starting my new book. It is an anthology with poetry, book reviews, blog posts, short stories, personal essays, and excerpts from longer works. And all of it has never been printed before, though some of it has appeared online.
My book launch. Back in the spring I published The Meg and Other “Shark” Stories. In September, I’m having a book launch at a cafe where I will be reading from my book and signing copies.
Reasons I’m Not Ready to Let Go of Summer Yet:
Well, it was a pretty great summer. I’ve been spending almost all my weekends with my boyfriend. We go to parties, the movies and he has been teaching me how to cook. We sit in the 3 seasons room in the balmy summer air, his dogs at our feet or on our laps and take in the lovely evening breeze.
It’s summer. Are we ever really ready to say goodbye?
