Today I am introducing Fey, a fellow writer. ”Well, usually, I go by my tribal name Feechi. It's a short form of Feechukwu, which is an Igbo word that means 'Worship God.' Still, I can go by Fey or Crystal (from Christabel)” said Fey (Feechi), a writer and also a pharmacist.

I asked her for her co-vid experience. ”Spending March to December at home gave me mixed feelings. On one hand, I was thrilled to be out of work and school, especially because I basically didn't do my six-month industrial training for pharmacy school. But again, that meant being cooped up with nothing to do. No church, school, or even seeing friends. It was super boring, and I really don't wish for that experience again”´ she said when speaking about quarantine.

She spoke about her writing: “Writing has always been a way of escape for me. I was without siblings for a while, so I usually bonded with my dad who's an English teacher. He taught me letters, words, and how to combine them so I quickly put the lessons to use” She adds “Now, it's almost like second habit. I use writing when I feel emotional, happy, and especially to write letters to my family and friends. It's really therapeutic for me, because I feel better afterwards. Also, I tend to be very forgetful so putting words down helps me remember what I need to do or say.

As to her goals for the future: “Last year, I had a lot of dreams and hopes but things didn't work out as planned. Partly due to procrastination, and device challenges. This year, though, I've made a significant break so I'm really hopeful about how it will turn out. My biggest hopes are to begin graduate school abroad, and have a successful writing career. I've been a freelance writer for years, but it's not something stable. So, I decided to put the energy into writing my own works this year, so I'm doing it bit by bit”

“There's a fantasy flash fiction I wrote a while back about a girl mourning for her lost lover at sea. I remember just thinking about mermaids and water, and then going along with the idea in my head. One thing I'm really proud of is how good my descriptions were. I usually have a hard time describing settings and people, but this one was amazing. Sometimes, I just go back to the document and smile to myself. I've been thinking of making it a novel, but I don't want to ruin it. Yet.” We will let you know when that day arrives.
