A lot of these won’t be from this month or even this year. I stumble on new artists in friends' cars or the loudspeaker at a store or in the gym. And usually, it’ll start as an earworm but then I appreciate the nuances of the song and how they do- and do not- relate to me. I’ll share some here but know that this is a very incomplete list.
· Deepest, Darkest by the LVP. If you haven’t listened to it yet. I’m not sure why we are still friends.
· Chained to the Rhythm by Katy Perry. This playlist contains more pop than I was expecting but the song was the song of my 21st birthday. I had been so excited for my party that five days afterwards I tried to kill myself.
· Baby Got Back by Sir-Mix-A lot. Okay I don’t have an ass to save my life but I love grooving to this song, Makes me wish my butt was bigger. Ce la vie.
· No Bad Dys by Macklemore. I love this song. I learned it from dance toning at the gym. I’ve even started following the dance moves. It’s a very optimistic song. I equate it with sunshine.
· Dance the Night Away by Dua Lipa. Again, not a current memory but my boyfriend and I did do the Barbieheimer when it came out. I have been open about not really liking the Barbie movie but I do like Margo Robbie and I do like that song.
· Don’t Blame Me by Taylor Swift. I don’t know if I’m a Swifty but I will say she is talented. Not only does she sing, she also writes the stuff. Hardly anybody in Hollywood does that.
· Cool for the Summer by Demi Lovato. I love Demi’s aesthetic and her honesty about her struggles. And this song was a steamy situation for sure.
· Anything from the Music Man. It used to be my favorite movie as a little kid. We even used to have a parade around the house. But now I’m listening to the soundtrack all over again and I realize I need to see it again as an adult.
· Kokomo I have a friend with a beautiful pool and throws rocking parties. In the meantime, he plays Beach Boys and dances on camera.
· The Joker vs. Pennywise (Rap Battles of History) Two of my favorite villains at each other's throats. There is “No win” because each of these guys is having too much fun in this “game”
So yeah, check back next month when we do February Playlist. What was your “”January” song? Let me know on Facebook or the comments below.
