Every four years the country seems to rip apart, each time with a more finalizing tear. I do not fault the candidates alone but us as well, especially those of us who take up arms against those who do not see the way we do. I don’t get into politics on my blog because I want to make it a welcome place for all races, sexual orientations, sexes, ages and abilities or anyone who just needs a place to belong. I took my meds last night per usual so I couldn’t stay up too late. This morning my parents informed me that Donald Trump won.
Facebook and Instagram were places of pure panic and anger. While I do agree with the saying “don’t bitch if you didn’t vote”, it is perfectly acceptable to post your feelings on your own social media. This is America, after all. We all have a voice and we are allowed to exercise it online as well as in the polls. I just don’t like to see this blind lashing out. Not everyone is going to agree with you and that does not mean they are a bad person. I have friends who voted for Trump, friends who voted for Harris. Some of them are friends with each other and don’t even know that the other voted differently.
I’m frustrated with the government in general. They focus on crime and immigration, two of the biggest concerns in both parties. However, they choose to simply ignore homelessness, prison reform and mental health reform, which we are in dire need of. Prisoners might be guilty but they should be treated humanely. Homeless people should have other sources of income than scouring for empty cans on the city streets. And you all know the problems I have with the mental health system.
We can mourn, we can worry if we’ve been disappointed by this election. However, I urge you not to let that be your final stance. Continue letting your voice be heard. Continue fighting for what you believe in. Don’t let anyone take that from you. Not even the President of the United States.
