I sipped on my Shirley Temple (#7andahalfyearssober) while watching the four musicians in front of me. They simply oozed talent. My best friend, Vince Camarista, was on guitar, his entire focus on the sound he was creating. Kyle Drumheller is a master at drums, coming in with a cymbal whenever he was needed. Joe Wasserman was on bass. During a guitar solo, Joe and Kyle clinked cans. Stephen Sbiroli (songwriter/lead singer/ guitarist) knew exactly what the audience needed and when. He started off wearing a skull mask and a pink bathrobe, both of which he lost during two of the songs (don’t worry, he had something underneath). The band was also selling merch including a ‘zine. The ‘zine has other interviews they’ve done, photos and lyrics to their songs. Maybe I can get a press discount.
They did do my favorite song, smack dab in the middle of the concert. I’m so glad I wasn’t peeing during that one. My favorite song is “Deepest, Darkest” and while you never know what a song is truly about until the songwriter tells you, for me it is metaphor for all the pills I’m on and the side effects they cause and the medication they put me on for the side effects and its just a cycle. So I identify with that song. I don’t have a drug problem, but I definitely had an alcohol problem which used to “keep me numb” Anyway it’s a really good song.
If I can’t be in a band, the next best thing is being supportive to my four friends who managed to form one. I wish them luck and know they don’t need it.
