This week was insane. I had something every day. It was a fun week but a tiring week. I don’t know if I can handle many more weeks like this this summer. Having fun is exhausting.
Monday: I actually stayed at Justin’s Sunday night and when he kissed me goodbye as he left for work I was bleary as hell. I spent Monday reading Stephen King’s Green Mile (book club), writing and napping. I love Justin’s screened in porch. On nights after dinner Justin and I will sit here and watch Youtube videos. It really means summer has settled in. I wasn’t just the house sitter, I was also the dog sitter. These dogs are independent but they love when they have company. They are both little white shih tzus and they are so loving and friendly. They have completely turned me on to the idea that I will want a dog one day (but my love of cats has not dimmed at all). When Justin came home he made a delicious chicken dish. Sometimes we “cook” (he cooks, I follow instructions) together, tonight he cooked while I wrote on my laptop, both of us listening to music, exchanging secret smiles even though we were the only ones there (besides the dogs). I got home around nine. It is an hours drive from his house to mine, the only regrettable thing about the relationship.
Tuesday: Tuesday my best friend and I went into the city to see a Broadway show with some of our other friends to celebrate my friend’s birthday. The show was Hell’s Kitchen and it was written using Alicia Key’s music. I still lament they don’t serve popcorn at Broadway shows but maybe I’m just uncultured. Pringles just aren’t the same. Besides whose idea was it to stack them in cylinders? Here’s what I didn’t like about the show: many times I found the dialogue stilted, awkward and somewhat unrealistic. It was very much how people in plays talk but maybe not in real life. I also found the story somewhat trite. A girl’s mother won’t let her run around in the streets and get involved with an older man. I have a similar story but instead of resonating with me I kind of just got bored with it. That’s the bad. The good? The dancing and singing made it larger than life, larger than Broadway, larger than me. The dancing was so in sync, it was one solid movement. And the singing…my God I don’t know if I’ve ever heard better. The raw talent on that stage was so impressive. And even if it had sucked completely it would had been worth it being with my friends.
Wednesday: Wednesday in honor of pride month I tried something new. I went to a crafts circle at the local pride center. I had never been there but they were very welcoming. I even got invited to a BBQ. There was one girl there who was also new. She was crocheting a large and very warm looking blanket. We talked practically the entire time. She’s a photographer and she’s going back to get her masters in counseling. Both were pretty interesting. There were alot of people I want to get to know better. The guy doing leather making to sell at the Renaissance Fair. The person (I can’t remember their pronouns) who was making furniture for a dollhouse down to the very sheets. It was alot like my knitting group only a different demographic.
Thursday: Thursday was one of my friend’s birthday and we were all going dancing at a local gay club. We pregamed at her house (when I say pregamed I mean I had some plantain chips. Several others were doing shots) and then hit the bar which is quiet on a Thursday night. I saw my first drag show. This really is my introduction to pride month.
Friday: Okay, today I have another party (I won’t even tell you about tomorrow). But I would also like to share that today I did forty five minutes on the bike without stopping. Without stopping. WITHOUT STOPPING. That is a huge milestone for me. Usually I get burnt out after five minutes. But today I kept a steady pace and I was able to do forty five minutes on the bike. Which equates to eight miles. I have never been able to do eight miles in anything. My mom says I’ve probably built stamina in my muscles from all those days on the treadmill. I’m seeing results. I’m becoming in better shape. Maybe soon I’ll be able to hike with my friends (I’m already pretty good in a kayak). I think that’s a good note to end this on.
