Why I Am Boycotting Terrifier 3

I’ll begin this post by explaining I am not squeamish or sensitive to blood and gore. When I was fifteen, I went on a sort of rampage watching gory and disturbing movies when I was in a deep depression. I’ve seen them all- Cannibal Holocaust, I Spit on Your Grave (both), Last House on Your Left (both), Human Centipede 2 and more. I am not easily moved by torture porn and I love the Saw movies. But I absolutely refuse to see Terrifier 3.

First of all, I didn’t like the first Terrifier. It was a cliche mess that never should have garnered any attention or critical acclaim. Personally I find Art the Clown more annoying than scary. I found the main characters more stupid than sympathetic. The movie barely held my interest and I was actually very surprised they made another, let alone the third.

I didn’t see the second one because I hated the first one so much. But that alone is not why I won’t see the third one. We have a code, as a society. It took me a while to learn this and I certainly didn’t know it at fifteen. But we do have a code to uphold of what we consider “appropriate entertainment” or just a descent into depravity. To see children murdered onscreen in sadistic ways should not be the way we spend our Friday nights. Who do you think this is inspiring, motivating? It is making our society sick.

Terrifier 3 is getting great reviews by people who do not understand what it is doing to our society. It is bad for our souls, it is bad for our minds to saturate ourselves with blood and gore. And once again I’ll say it: Art isn’t even scary.
