1) Exercise. Getting in shape and having more autonomy over your body does wonders for your self-esteem. I always feel better about myself after a workout- unless I fall off the treadmill.
2) Good grades. I feel like good grades are controversial. They aren’t the most accurate measure of intelligence but usually are an indication of hard work and dedication.
3) Mastering a skill. From learning a new language to learning a new instrument, these skills give you the means to feel better about yourself.
4) Therapy. Nowadays there is no shame in therapy. I personally believe everyone can benefit from a little therapy. You’ll learn more about yourself and how you relate to others.
5) Journaling. It’s like therapy but free (well, besides the cost of a pen and a notebook). I will soon have a post coming out on tips for journaling.
6) Faith. Faith is twofold: it helps me feel humble but it also is quite awe inspiring and helps me realize what I am capable of from digesting food to playing soccer
7) Acts of kindness. Yet another way of affirming you are a good person and one of God’s children
8) Leather jacket. Nuff said.
9) Frequent sex (ideally with the same monogamous partner). To be affirmed as desirable and sexy is very important particularly for young people still finding partners
10) Forgive. It takes the bigger person to forgive but you will literally feel the bigger person for it.
