(dedicating a poem to my boyfriend at the last poetry slam)

Two years ago I saw The Batman with Robert Pattinson. As we walked back to his car, my date turned to me. “Would you be my girlfriend?” And I am just as happy today as I was back then.

My boyfriend and I met on Bumble. Online dating was rough, especially for a chubby girl. So I found Bumble gentler than most online dating sites. I came across his profile, and we  matched. I saw he was interested in film so I asked what his favorite horror movie was. The rest is history.

I took it slow with him. I had come from a very toxic relationship and spooked very easily. But this time I was reading all the signs right. That summer we were splashing around in the water at his friends pool party when we exchanged “I love yous” in between cannonballs.

We’ve had so many adventures, I couldn’t possibly pick a favorite. Was it the time you positioned my stuffed Eeyore to make him look like he was drinking the cream in a coffee shop? Was it the time I left my favorite vest at Red Robin and you said “I’m turning this car around?” so we could go get it.  Was it the time we ordered Chick Fil A as room service? Was it the time I won that poetry slam and your cheer was the loudest in the room? The countless others that I won’t share in the interest of time and privacy?

He cooks me dinner while I read aloud funny Reddit stories and we gasp and laugh about the situations other people have gotten themselves into. I watch him Mortal Kombat. He tutors me in X-Men, Watchmen and the Justice League (I don’t like the Avengers). We built a Lego structure of Wolverine’s hand together. Man, I’m just glad I can still  make him blush with a simple poem. I love you baby. Happy anniversary.
