This weekend Justin and I went to a mini horror con in his town. I had never been to a comic con, a vidcon or anything like it. I was thrilled. People were dressed up from a Ghostface to a sexy Pennywise with boobs falling out of her white lace dress and red make up to boot. The booths were set up in the recreational center. There were horror movie shirts, hats, stickers, plushies. I was very tempted to buy the crocheted Ghostface (in case you don’t know Ghostface is my favorite) but maybe eventually I can crochet one myself. I did get a journal and two bookmarks. These bookmarks were 3Dprinted in the shape of a knife and they had different horror movie villains on them. I took the (you guessed it) Ghostface and also a Jigsaw (if you want a lengthy discussion with me just say you agree that Jigsaw is an underappreciated villain).
There were actors from horror movies like Fright Night (which they did a screening of) and Cannibal Holocaust. I don’t consider myself a fan girl but I got a picture with the lead of Cannibal Holocaust (who was very sweet and funny). Cannibal Holocaust is a 1980s horror movie that went so far it was actually banned in several places. It is very gory (watch what you google about it). It is a found footage movie about a crew that goes to the Amazon and stumbles on a cannibalistic tribe. There’s violence (no shit), there’s sexual assault and they really did kill animals for this movie (that footage is real, the rest is acting). However, it was so realistic people really considered it a snuff film and they thought the actors were dead. They even arrested the director at one point. The actor was suprised when I told him I had seen the movie at age 15 but then again at that time I was watching alot of movies I shouldn’t at that time.
Sometimes I wonder why I did that. These are movies I would never, never want to watch (or rewatch) today. I spent most of age 15 numb and I think these movies were some way to poke at the pain. I will always love horror. But now I love it a little tamer that’s all.
