“Think about the first time you ever got butterflies in your tummy, the kind of butterflies never forget. Good butterflies that make you feel alive- what memory is attached to that? Do you still get butterflies when you think about it now”
My original butterflies were associated with a guy named Danny. I only really liked him based on appearance which is dumb because I’m not superficial inn who I date (even though Justin is handsome). I very rarely go for blondes anyway but Danny was blonde and I was very attracted to him. But the very first I got another type of butterflies was performing onstage. I would get them right before I had to sing a solo or play the piano. I didn’t get nervous just acting even memorizing my lines.
“Remember back to your childhood and how it felt to play with all kinds of different toys. Write about a memory you cherish that involves a toy. It can be from any age but one you made a special memory with. What toy are you writing about and who gave it to you? Why is this memory so special and what comes to mind and when you think of it today?
I remember getting my first American Girl doll, Samantha, for Christmas when I was eight. My Grandma Betty got it for me (it costs about $100. I know from the catalogs) I was thrilled. Grandma always spoiled me. Samantha smelled great. She came in patent Mary Janes, a purple and white “checkered” dress with leggings. Samantha was the “kind” doll and she grew up during Victorian times. After that I also got Molly and then Kit. They are now all in the attic,
“Think about the most memorable competition you’ve ever been part of. Write about what it was like, what you were competing for and who you competed against or alongside.. What made it so memorable and what did you take away from this experience?
It was last year. I was competing for a spot on the slam team. Ten people competed- six or five made the slam team. I made it through the first round of cuts but then I was eliminated. If I had made the slam team I would have competed with them at other competitions (Regionals although there used to be a Nationals but poets can’t math). Unfortunately I have some formidable competition- Gloria, Cshep, and five others. I’m getting a second chance this year.
“It’s easy to pick a favorite song but finding an entire album you love can be more challenging. Write about an album that stands out as the most memorable to you. Did you love every song? What made this album so unforgettable? Was it by your favorite artist and why does it hold a special place above other albums?
When I was in my first year of college, Panic! At the Disco came out with their Death of Bachelor album. It had songs about friendship, about wild parties (Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time) , heartbreak and tough times. I love every song and would listen to the songs walking from class to class. Derrick is the one who introduced me to the album, —--- (ex boyfriend) is the one who introduced me to the band (many years earlier). This album is amazing because a) I love every single song b) it brings me back to a place and p people I love.
