My boyfriend has several perks to his job. One of them is free tickets to certain new Broadway shows. Which means yesterday Justin and I got to see the preview to Lost Boys: A New Musical. Justin and I have seen several shows together: Goodnight Oscar, Greyhouse, Harmonies, Swept Away, The Who’s Tommy and personally Lost Boys was my favorite.
The show is about a divorcee leaving her abusive alcoholic husband and starting anew with her two sons- Michael (the older one) and Sam (the younger one that was a comic book nerd). Unfortunately the place they picked to relocate (Santa Clara) was actually was a haven for vampires (hence all the missing persons posters). Michael immediately falls for a beautiful halfling named Star ( a halfling is someone who is not a full vampire because they have not fed). Star is resisting but she’s growing weaker and her friend David ( very much a full vampire) encourages her to feed on Michael. Until he decides he wants Michael for himself.
David tries to persuade Michael to join his group of vampires. Michael, who feels abandoned by his father and is at odds with his mother and brother, drinks David’s blood making him a halfling as well. Meanwhile, Sam meets two vampire hunters at the comic book store who are just kids but take their job very seriously. They warn him about the dark secret of Santa Clara and when Michael is babysitting Sam one night Sam realizes something is seriously wrong with his brother and enlists the vampire hunters for help.
And I will say nothing more, only if you get the opportunity you should definitely watch. Yes, its campy at parts and some songs I could have done without (Be Kind, Rewind), but they did an amazing job with special effects and vocals and the creepy factors. I can’t wait for the soundtrack to be released on Spotify. Till then I will have to listen and relisten to my favorite song.
Favorite Song: Have to Have You
Favorite Character: David
Favorite Actor: Ali Louis Bourzgui as David (he actually played Tommy in The Who’s Tommy but I thought this was really where he came in his element)
