The Ins of October Part One

A consistent bedtime. This is very important (vital) for someone with bipolar disorder. It’s easier to go to bed at a regular time because I regularly take my meds at 9 and that puts me to sleep by ten. I’m usually in bed by ten every weeknight (it’s harder on weekends but usually I’m able to do it). The place it is hardest is Cape Cod because its not unusual for the younger cousins to stay up drinking and playing games until 3 in the morning. I don’t drink but when I try to go to bed everyone protests and begs me to stay up later. My brother and several of my cousins and my boyfriend cram into a room but I sleep upstairs with my parents. This is so I can get quality sleep and stay on top of my avalanche of medication. Unfortunately its a pull out bed and it does sometimes close up when I’m inside and don’t distribute my weight evenly.
Dressing modestly at the gym. Recently on SNL comedian Shane Gillis made a comment that girls at the gym dressed like whores. It sounded more truth than a joke. I’m at the gym Monday through Friday and I don’t understand how girls can feel comfortable dressing and working out in so little clothes. I’m gonna make myself unpopular here and say I think they just want male attention. Yes, they look great (usually) and yes you should take pride in your appearance but don’t pretend not to like attention when you receive it. If you really want to be left alone, just wear sweats and a baggy T-shirt like I do. Or go on medication and eat alot which I also do. Either or.
Having opinions. There are two people in the world I will talk about current events honestly with because I trust them not to judge me or tell anybody else. They are my boyfriend Justin and one of my very close friends. We live in a time where it is unpopular to think differently than everyone else. I say bullshit to that. We shouldn’t be afraid to hide our opinions. Some opinions should be unpopular- hurting children and animals or stealing from others. But in the morally gray areas there should be room for more than one opinion. And people shouldn’t be afraid to share theirs.
Cups that look like milk jugs. For my last birthday, my new friend Lana got me a small cup that looks like a milk jug. It says “Sometimes amazing people forget how amazing they are….this is your reminder” And it has Pooh and Piglet sitting on a log. People give writers mugs alot but this is one of my favorites even though it is much smaller than the rest of mine and involves me making more trips to the coffee pot. Like I said, I have alot of mugs. But if you ever want to give me another one, hey I’m not going to say no.
Leather jackets and suede boots (ankles or knee high). I used to love knee high boots. I had a few pairs- leather, suede, slouchy, I can’t really wear them anymore or at least not any of my old ones. I got too….big. It hurt. It still hurts to know something you once looked good in no longer fits your body. But I got a killer leather jacket. I always feel fearless in a leather jacket.
