What were your school names and locations? I won’t disclose the names and locations for safety reasons but I went to the local high school for eighth gade (eighth grade is high school) and then I was at Intensive Day Therapy for a few weeks then h omeschooled for a few months and at a private Catholic all girls school for grades nine to twelfth.
What about your parents seemed old-fashioned? My parents hated my goth phase. My mom had a no chains, skulls, spikes or temporary tattoos or face piercings rule. I thought it was stupid she got mad about a fake piercing but I only pulled that stunt once.
What rites of passage marked your coming of age? I got confirmed when I was fourteen. I chose the name Bernadette and my confirmation sponsor was my cousin Mary-Kate.
When and what place were so you so honored? I was in a place where I really needed God. I chose St. Bernadette because she’s one of the most inspirational saints I’ve come across. During this time I was enduring trauma as well as showing symptoms of bipolar disorder. I was desperate for help. God really helped me, offered me comfort. I read the bible. I went to church almost every day when I stayed with my aunt. I really wanted my confirmation to mean something especially when I had done so much sinning and I felt like my life was so precarious. And choosing my cousin was a no brainer. She has always been the most closest thing to a sister. At this point we were sharing a room. I didn’t have any other friends. She’s done alot for me and since then she’s done even more.
