                           Do It Yourself: The Book of Me

How much did you worry about being popular?

I never worried about being popular per se but I did want to have lots of friends (as many as possible) and wanted everyone to like me (Is that the same thing?)

Whom did you hang out with after school? I had so many friend groups. By the time I graduated high school  my group was —-, —--, and —-- but I usually hung out with my boyfriend and his friends.

Who sat with you at lunch? —--, —--, and —--. We would all eat in the senior lounge even though we weren’t supposed to.

What was memorable about the school food? Our cookies (chocolate chip) were legendary. If a girl came to our school for Angel for a Day, she would always get a free cookie.

How would you describe your friends? We were the nerds. The weirdos. Plus we had zero school spirit. —-- was the only one who bothered to go to senior prom (I went to it at my boyfriend’s school). Me and —-- were the only ones who did school activities. 

Are you still in touch with any of them? No. At first I was in touch with —--- (she wished me happy birthday while I was at college). But we don’t talk. I wrote a poem about it called “Five Things I Want to Tell My Best Friend From High School” 

What did your parents think of your friends? My parents liked my youth group friends and my high school friends. They hated my eighth grade stage crew friends. They said my friends were like a gang. 

Did you have a crush on a classmate? Well I was at an all girls school. But in eighth grade I had a crush on half the student body. My biggest crush was a senior drug dealer —- —--.

What about a teacher, movie star, singer or someone else? I didn’t really have what I call “unattainable crushes” I did have a thing for my Latin teacher. And he even gave me private tutoring after I left (not an innuendo. We just talked about Latin at the library).

What kind of  music did you listen to? I listened to alternative rock. Panic at the Disco, Fall Out Boy, Shinedown, Sum 41, Paramore and Glee covers.

What song comes to mind from your teenage years? Famous Last Words by My Chemical Romance, End of the Underground by Hawthorne Heights, Here I Am Alive by Yellowcard and Snuff by Slipknot

What movies do you remember seeing? I saw Ted. It was my first R movie in theaters.

What about TV shows? I got hooked on Glee pretty early on but  mostly I liked watching  Youtube.
