Ten Things I Need to Stop Trying to Control:
Time. You can’t slow it down or speed it up. So enjoy the natural pace of things
A “friend” of mine that doesn’t treat me very well, makes me feel stupid in front of other people
The face that my cat is aging. I miss his sister so much I know when he leaves us it’ll break me
The fact that my little brother has done so much better than me with his own job, apartment and the fact that he has traveled the world
My stomach problems which don’t seem to abate despite what I eat and drink
If other girls have bigger boobs. This has always bothered me and is the reason I dread most pool parties and beaches.
Someone else’s illness. We can say that we can do some things (make the person comfortable, pray) but in situations of terminal illness there is not much we can do
Someone else’s addiction. Whether it be alcohol, drugs, shoplifting you can force or coerce someone into sobriety
Aging. I mentioned time. Time wears on us with wrinkles and age spots. We can try to look younger or embrace it.
The fact that I didn’t finish college. I could go back but I won’t. Gee I guess I can control it.
List ten things I have some measure of control over
What I eat. With the dark cloud of diabetes hanging over me. I can’t just eat anything anymore
What I write. What do I feel like writing today? A personal essay? A book essay? A short story? A poem?
What I will devote my time to doing: knitting, piano, my new book project, my friends birthday scrapbook
What will I wear? Will it be a crop top and a high waisted skirt? A Tshirt? A bodysuit and a a sheer top? A Winnie the Pooh onesie
What I read? I’m currently in the middle of 5-6 books and I feel like I’m reading different books at different points in the day
What movies I go see. I usually go with what Justin wants to see but he’s seen my picks too- except Smile 2
If I am going to have a family. Justin and I decided long ago kids weren’t in the cards but we do plan on two dogs, two cats so we’ll have a full house
What I drink. I haven’t had a Monster since Lent started and I intend to continue with that. Liquid Death is a satisfying substitute #Restinpeaches
What I spend money on. I am not one for big purchases. Occasionally I’ll indulge in a Lego set or expensive set of pens
How much you give. Every day we have love and kindness we give to others and ourselves. Please contribute to your fullest extent.
