My Aspirations

Hey. Between the presidents, the sharks and Henry the VIII’s wives its been a while since you heard from me. I’m happy to reintroduce myself. I’m Leigh Winters and no that is not my real name but I feel better using it when talking about personal matters on the internet. Most of you know I had a very bad experience on the Internet when I was fifteen. I don’t know if a fake name is going to help but it fits like a security blanket. Anyway today I’m here to talk about aspirations (aspiration definition: A hope or ambition of achieving something). Here are my aspirations for the rest of 2025 (which has been a very pleasant year so far. Not better than 2024, that was also a great year, but definitely better than 2023 and marginally better than 2022 even though that was the year my boyfriend and I got together):
I want to have a basic conversation in sign language. I want to be able to introduce myself, ask for their name, give a compliment (“I liked your poem” for example).
I want to place in the top three at a poetry slam. Once upon a time it wasn’t unusual for me to place second or third or even win. That hasn’t happened for a while. Either I’m getting worse (and I don’t think I am, though maybe I’m not putting in as much editing and preparation as I used to) or the competition is getting better (I wouldn’t say that either, the competition has always been stiff. Maybe I’m just appreciating the talent more).
I want to tackle Chappell Roan on the piano
I want to get in better shape. Every weekday finds me at the gym but unfortunately the working out only makes me hungrier.
I want to go to a spa with my friends. I have never been to a spa. My grandma promised me she would take me when I got older but she got too sick and passed away before that could happen. It’s a shame. I would have loved sharing that with her.
I want to strengthen my friendships with certain people. I’d like to have more girls nights. I like to meet more friends for lunch, particularly the busy ones.
I would like to continue my book club into the New Year.
I want to make the most out of the rest of this wonderful summer.
