My Personal Spa

Last Friday I went to King’s Island Spa where I spent the day being pampered, sinking into warm baths and lying in the dark on mats feeling a little at peace. A year ago I went with my two best friends to The Island, another spa. We giggled about my friend’s upcoming wedding while submerged in the baths, shivering in the cold room which dried the sweat pouring down our faces and I got a face massage. Today I’m going to detail a little bit about my ideal spa. Here are five things I would include if I was building my own spa:
Baths. No spa can be complete without the baths. Patrons are asked to shower first then submerge themself in a bath of their choice. They range from scalding to “I am a living ice cube” I’m not a big fan of either extreme but at my spa I’d want to provide options for everyone. Cold baths are healthy and good for the skin.
Huts. At both spas there were huts also with varying temperatures. While its fun to giggle in the dark I like to lie very still on my mat enjoying the scent. Aesthetically I would like it to be beautiful with stones lining the walls of the hut like stained glass windows at a church.
My cafeteria would have low prices but quality food. Appetizers would be $5 and entrees would have side dishes including fried rice.
Infrared room. At King Island’s Spa I experienced, for the first time, infrared light. You lie down on a bed and move a machine that emits infrared light up and down your body. This was unbelievably peaceful, to feel the gentleness of the heat and the quiet of the room. I began to pray; that’s how close to God I felt. When my friends finally came to get me I felt like I had actually had a religious experience.
Massages (naturally). Only mine would come with a form and you would check off how hard you wanted it (a massage. Get your minds out of the gutter). The options could be Mild/ Relaxing, A Little Rougher or Torture. When it gets to the point they are pulling your fingers from their sockets I think we know which one we are getting.
For those of you who have never been to a spa, I think it’s a great experience. There’s some stuff I haven’t tried yet like hipbaths (You sit with your hips, pubic area and ass submerged. It’s supposed to help with a myriad of problems like menstruation discomfort to hemorrhoids) or body scrubs (my best friend told me they literally scrub dead skin off you). But maybe as I grow more comfortable with spas I’ll try them. For now I’ll just lie down, feel the heat and close my eyes.
