My Summer Anthems

Every summer is accompanied with several anthems, the kind that make people perk up at parties, hum to themselves or sing along. Here in 2025 are my summer anthems. Note: these songs don’t necessarily have to be from 2025 (and most of them aren’t).

1. Song: Naked in Manhattan

Artist: Chappell Roan

Lyrics: Boys suck and girls I’ve never tried

And we both know we’re getting drunk tonight

Chappell Roan is a rising star. Her album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, contains multiple hits, multiple layers revealing a very talented artist.

2. Song: Golden

Artist: KPop Demon Hunters Soundtrack

Lyrics: Oh I’m done hiding, now I’m shining 

Like I’m born to be

Oh, our time, no fears no lies

That’s who we’re born to be

KPop Demon Hunters is a movie…and it’s actually a very good movie. The songs are catchy, the plot is relatively unique and the characters are fun. It’s a movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously and for that reason I encourage you to watch it. 

3. Song: Blinding Lights

Artist: The Weekend

Lyrics: I said, ooh, I'm blinded by the lights

No, I can't sleep until I feel your touch

I said, ooh, I'm drowning in the night

Oh, when I'm like this, you're the one I trust

This song actually came out in 2020 but it was buried under the Pandemic so only heard it recently. Glad to see the Weekend still churning out music.

4. Song: Red Wine Supernova

Artist: Chappell Roan

Lyrics: I heard you like magic

I got a wand and a rabbit

So baby let’s get freaky, get kinky

Lets make this bed get squeaky

Okay no more Chappell Roan, I promise

5. Song: good 4 u

Artist: Olivia Rodrigo

Lyrics: And good for you, it's like you never even met me

Remember when you swore to God I was the only

Person who ever got you? Well, screw that and screw you

You will never have to hurt the way you know that I do

This song is the ultimate fuck you song of the summer. Her contempt and scathing scorn for her ex despite the fact that she wants him back….I think its something we have all related to.

6. Song: I’m Good (Blue)

Artist: David Guetta, Bebe Rexha

Lyrics: I'm good, yeah, I'm feelin' alright

Baby, I'ma have the best fuckin' night of my life

And wherever it takes me, I'm down for the ride

Baby, don't you know I'm good? Yeah, I'm feelin' alright

I love this uplifting party song. Again, the song was released in 2022 but it is a new discovery song for me. Pump it up! (Btw I love Bebe Rexha)

7. Song: Influencer

Artist: Strange Neighbors

Lyrics: Let me influence you baby

Tell you everything is fine

If you buy alot of sneakers

And spend all your time online

This song was done by a local up and coming band called Strange Neighbors. I actually happen to know the lead singer and she has one of the nicest voices I’ve heard. What a powerhouse! Also every song has great lyrics.

8. Song: Levitating

Artist: Dua Lipa

Lyrics: I believe that you're for me, I feel it in our energy

I see us written in the stars

We can go wherever, so let's do it now or never, baby

Nothing's ever, ever too far

I would like to dance to this song every time it comes on.

9. Song: Thumbs

Artist: Sabrina Carpenter

Lyrics: Cause that's just the way of the world

It never ends 'til the end and then you start again

That's just the way of the world

Catchy song that makes me hum in the shower. Not quite sure why she titled it “thumbs” though

10.  Song: No Promises

Artist: Demi Lovato, Cheat Codes

Lyrics: Oh, na-na, just be careful

Na-na love ain’t simple

Na-na, promise me no promises

This song makes me think. It puts me in one of my “deep” moods. And how right they are. No promises.
