My Types of Dreams

Dreams are interesting because sometimes we get dreams that make perfect sense and sometimes we get dreams that are wtf, coming out of left field. I don’t know much about the mechanics of dreaming, only that I get alot of them, that they are very vivid and that I can usually wake myself up if I want to. I know not everyone can do this but when I am dreaming I usually become aware I am dreaming and can control my actions. This is a phenomenon known as lucid dreaming. Maybe its hereditary because, though rare, my brother can do it too. Most people try to lucid dream thinking its fun and it sometimes is. That doesn’t prevent me from having these terrible nightmares though. Here are some of my other types of dreaming:

  • Recurring dreams. I don’t usually have the exact same dream but I will have dreams about the same people. I frequently dream of my old best friend, the one I didn’t end on good terms with. In the dream we usually kiss, which I guess could be called wish fulfillment except the dreams took me by surprise because I didn’t feel that way about him at the time.

  • I frequently get night terrors. From having miscarriages to bugs (bug dreams really bother me)  to being raped by family members I have woken up with tears on my face. Sometimes I think I’m screaming for help but I’m not.  I’m only screaming in my dreams.

  • Cheating dreams. It is not uncommon for me to have a dream I cheated on Justin. Now this is a true nightmare for I love Justin and never want to hurt him. When I wake up the relief I feel is palpable. Oddly enough I never have a dream he cheats on me.

  • The being unprepared dream. I never have dreams in which I’m unprepared for a test (I never was) but I do have alot of dreams in which  I’m about to go out onstage and I don’t know my lines. Heck, I don’t even know the play. And I have my nightmare director breathing down my neck and I know if I disappoint her she is going to rip me apart.

  • The driving dream. I used to do some driving when I had my permit. Because of tremors and my eyesight and my medication I am no longer permitted to drive. But sometimes my dreams are like freakin GTA. I kick the driver out of his seat and mow down civilians (usually not on purpose) and crash through storefronts and houses. Basically I’m a menace to the roads and for some reason (if I’m not lucid dreaming) I can’t stop myself.

  • Relapse dreams. I sometimes have dreams I am drinking usually after drinking zero beer and still having the taste of Heineken Zero in my mouth. This is another wave of relief when I wake up. I’m still sober. Thank God.

If you asked me I’d take that thing Dumbledore offers Harry. “Dreamless Sleep” When I look over all the dreams I’ve had it feels pretty good right about now.
