Nine Things That Made Me Smile and FOMO

Friday Justin and I went into the city for a Broadway show. We go frequently because he gets tickets from his job but this time he got tickets to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as my birthday present. Before the show, we dined at the Glass House. I had mushroom soup, fettuccine alfredo and bread pudding. But I think my favorite part of the meal was the free bread with olive oil. Classic me. I’m all about the bread.
The butterbeer was the best damn thing I ever tasted. They were serving butterbeer at the theater so Justin bought me some and after intermission I bought some more. Mom said it’s butter and it’s sugar (it’s butterscotch flavor) so no wonder I liked it so much. Justin got some Bertie Bott’s Every Flavored Beans. I didn’t try any. I have stayed clear of them after I threw up at college during a game where we all took turns eating them.
I haven’t said much about the actual play but tomorrow I am going to write a review of the show. I will say the famous Tom Felton (who played Draco Malfoy in all eight movies) was in the show playing a grown up Draco Malfoy and I totally did not fan girl (well, maybe a little). But anyway my undeniable favorite line of the play is when Draco Malfoy (snooty even as an adult) sneers “Is that a….farmer’s market?”
On Saturday me and a couple of friends went up to Warwick for apple picking. Let me just say the drive was gorgeous. Foliage can cast a spell that can be quite disarming as well as distracting. Good thing I wasn’t driving. Fall is also coffee weather in case you didn’t know.
This year my costume is Velma from Scooby Doo. I already had the hair (well I had to straighten the hair but I don’t mind doing that once in a while), the glasses and the tight orange turtleneck. My mom and I found a red skirt on Amazon and orange knee socks. We were ready for a costume party.
Saturday night Justin and I went to a Halloween party. We didn’t know many people so for me it’s an exercise in friendliness. Costume parties are easier because costumes are an automatic icebreaker.
I ran into three people I used to hang out when I was on medical leave which would be ten years ago. They actually got me into my first bar (I was twenty), The whole story is in Story of Hope. “How’s she gonna get in? “She’s just gonna walk in like she owns the place” And I did. I don’t know. I probably haven’t seen thought of these people since I went back to school but seeing them still felt good.
A polaroid. One of my old friends was going around with a polaroid camera taking pictures. I asked him if he could take a picture of me and Justin and he said he had one picture left. I immediately told him to save it but he insisted on taking the picture. And it turned out great. I am rarely pleased with the way I look in a picture in these days. But my eyes sparkled, I looked so happy, I felt happy, I felt like I was belonging. I didn’t look fat. And yes, I’ll be honest, that matters to me.
Sunday I went with Justin and our friend, Bill, to go see Clayface. It was one of my favorite “cape” movies (superhero movies although in this case it is a supervillain) second only to the Dark Knight. I’m not going to elaborate now (on Wednesday I’ll be writing a full scale review) but yes, it’s graphic, yes, it’s unsettling but I wouldn’t say it was a B horror movie. I’d give it an A.
I mention FOMO because even though I couldn’t have possibly fit one more thing into this past weekend (not to mention I was recovering from a cold AND I got my period Saturday) I discovered a bunch of friends got together and did something cool without me. I don’t suffer from FOMO as badly as I used to but sometimes it hurts not to be invited to something especially when I wouldn't hesitate to invite any of them. I don’t know. It’s something I’ll have to get over.
