Reasons I Smiled Yesterday

Fridays have gotten quite  busy. I work during the day and in the evening I’m usually out with Justin or friends. I went to bed around midnight last night and I am still recovering from my ear infection so I  really didn’t have time or energy to write yesterday. But I’ll squeeze a makeup post this weekend. And here it is.

Reasons I Smiled Yesterday:

  1. My co worker told me she liked working with me. Right out of the blue she just said “You know I really like working with you” That’s always nice to hear!

  1. My afternoon activity went really well. In the afternoon I led a word association activity. I put the word “vacation” on the white board and the room gave me words associated with it such as “hotel” “travel” and “shopping” Then we brainstormed words associated with those words like “airplane” “cruise” and “luggage”. I only stopped when there was no more room on the board. Our second word was “summer sports” which started off with “tennis” and ended with “bungee jumping” and “horseback riding” I got the participation of people who don’t usually contribute. My coworker told me I did a great job. I was beaming as I clocked out.

  1. Seeing my good friend. I have a good friend who is in the National Guard so sometimes I have to go a while without seeing her. She is so sweet and kind; she actually reminds me of my college best friend Emily. She picked  me up and we went to Pride.

  1. I got many compliments on my new shirt which is pink with Ghostface on it and it says “I’m just a girl who likes scary movies” From Spencers of course.

  1. Getting a “gratitude” journal for free and infinite stickers, many focused on mental health. If you are looking to add to your sticker collection pride is a good place to go.

  1. We stumbled upon a booth that was selling candles and bars of soap. But these were not ordinary candles. Oh no. My friend got an “espresso martini” candle that was in a martini glass. There was a cinnamon bun, there was the “Jersey shore” which somehow bore the scent of ocean (and had a shell), and several other candles that I could stick my nose in all day. And there was fruit loops with mock fruit loops decorating the top of the candle. Fruit loops is more than just cereal. It also brings up some really fond memories. When my family used to go to Cape Cod, my brother and I  would eat the mini cereal boxes and we would try to save fruit loops for last (or lose the battle and eat it on the first day). I wanted to buy all the items but that wasn’t really an option so fruit loops it was, the smell of childhood and whimsy.

  1. I discovered a no kill cat rescue that I didn’t know existed called Simba’s Sanctuary (https://simbasonline.org ). I spoke to the people behind the table and looked through the binder of cats that were up for adoption. I won’t lie; I haven’t stopped hurting since Scout died. I miss having a cat around, especially a sweet and playful one. I thought about volunteering but don’t want to make my parents drive me. I took a card just in case though.

  1. After Pride my friend and i met her husband (one of my best friends) for dinner. We had such a good time talking about the upcoming wedding, summer fun, our jobs and movies. Oh yeah and tattoos. We talked alot about tattoos. I have been craving a tattoo as more and more of my friends get them. The only thing stopping me is my mom. I don’t want to disrespect her while i’m under her roof but I would love a semi colon tattoo. A semi colon means something to me. The semi colon movement signifies a time where you could have ended your life but you chose (or God chose for you) to continue. Your story had a pause, it was not over. Someday I will get one. It’s not about being cool. It’s about being true to me.

  1. At dinner I got only salad and water and stuck to my diet.

  2. I have the best friends, the best candle, and I think my ear infection is finally clearing up.
