I say this to all Americans at a crucial time in history because I am so tired of this shit. I am tired of friends dropping friends just because of their political beliefs. I am tired of people making assumptions. And I am well aware I might lose some friends myself in case anybody bothers to read this post but I’m trying to be brave as all of our politicians encourage. This Thanksgiving let us stand together as a nation and recite “I won’t let a nation’s worth of hate drag me into the fray”

It does not have to be a political hate. Religions are also going toe to toe, picking up the swords that are wielded by people in other countries and continuing that battle here. Other religions dictate who people can and cannot love or whom they can and cannot be. Families have been splintered by difference of opinion and celebrate the holiday in separate houses holding grudges.

I say this earnestly. We want to stand up for what we believe in and we should not compromise our convictions. But life is too short to let our hate- for another political party, another religion, another sexual orientation, another lifestyle- impede our relationships. We get one life and Thanksgiving is the perfect time to offer the olive branch. Think of who you are grateful for. Make sure your pride is not going to cost you them.
