As a heads up for my blog readers next week I’m featuring Henry the 8ths six wives. The week after that….shark week (I have a book themed around sharks. Of course I’m going to feature them). We only have to deal with this violence one more day and if you can’t handle it anymore (which I understand) there will be more lighthearted posts. Or if you’re craving something to do in your spare time, go see the new Superman movie. I know, I don’t usually plug superhero movies. In fact I generally find them boring or that they try too hard. But James Gunn did a really good job with this (as my boyfriend said he is “five out of five for superhero movies”). Justin and I agreed the movie had the best Lois Lane (played by Brosnahan), best Jimmy Olsen (played by Skyler Gisondo) and best Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult). It made me laugh, it made cry, yes it was a little long but only a little. Oh and they are adapting yet another Stephen King book into a movie. Anyway back to the women.

4. Brenda Spencer

When we think of school shootings, we usually think of Columbine or Sandy Hook. But two decades before that there was a shooting at an elementary school. The attack came not from within but from a girl’s bedroom across the street, who opened fire on the the elementary killing two adults and wounding nine children. Brenda Spencer was only sixteen but but she was charged as an adult. She was granted life in prison, parole after 25 years but she is still in jail. She is infamous for saying “I don’t like Mondays” as her reason for her truly evil behavior.

3. Christa Pike

The youngest to have been sentenced to death in the United States, Pike torture and killed one of his classmates, Colleen Slemmer. She had a tough life with an indifferent mother but it was hard to know what was true and what was not as Pike wasn’t the most reliable source. When she was older, she was in training to become a nurse, dating Tardaryl Shipp. She suspected Colleen was trying to steal her boyfriend and knew she  had to be punished Her, Tardaryl and her friend, Shadolla lured Slemmer out of the dorms with some pot. Then she was attacked, beaten. A pentagram was carved into her chest. She was killed when Pike hit her with asphalt. For a souvenir she took part of Slemmer’s skull and made a show and tell of it at school, which is kind of stupid if you don’t want to get caught. She was arrested and put on Death Row. She even tried to kill someone in prison. Now that is someone who should never be released.

2. Caril Ann Fugate

We haven’t discussed spree killers yet but Caril Ann Fugate and her boyfriend Charles Starkweather are amongst America’s most prolific. It started at home where the pair killed Fugate’s mother and stepfather as well as Fugate’s baby sister (two and a half years old, the monsters). Here is where the mystery comes in. Fugate claims Charles forced her to kill her family instead of being a willing participant. Their spree would take the lives of seven more people but Fugate insisted Charles forced her against her will. Starkweather also sodomized a teenage girl. It was speculated that Caril was the one who mutilated the girl’s genitals out of jealousy. So was she part of the evil fun or a victim? The jury decided the former. Caril was out of prison after eighteen years.

  1. Theresa Knorr

Mother of six children, Theresa was incarcerated for murdering her oldest two girls. She had a rocky road of relationships, divorcing four (yes four) men and giving birth to six children along the way. But things deteriorated after her fourth divorce. The children were beaten, force-fed, and burned. She threatened them with knives and even guns. Sheila and Suesan, the two older sisters, took the brunt of the abuse. In an interview, the youngest daughter said her mother was jealous of her two pretty daughters as she had begun to age.  Suesan ran away and was placed in a mental hospital where she claimed she was being abused but no one believed her and returned her home. At one point, she pulled them out of school so her abuse wouldn’t be spotted.

Terry was given a gun to point at Suesan but when she was startled she accidentally shot her sister. Suesan need medical attention but instead Theresa kept her in the bathtub where she removed the bullet herself leading to sepsis. Theresa took two of her other sons and they drove her to a valley where she  was burned alive. She was Jane Doe for a while.

Theresa forced her next oldest daughter Sheila to become a prostitute. She was accused of being pregnant catching an STD and giving it to Theresa. So she was bound, gagged, and locked in a closet with no food or water. Shelia confessed to being pregnant so she would get  food but Theresa didn’t believe her and she died in the closet three days later. She was disposed by her brothers. Another Jane Doe. Terry was the brave one, she was determined to find justice for the murders of her sisters. Knorr (now going by a different name) was arrested. She pled  guilty to escape the death penalty.

I got a lot of my information from the last three days from Wikipedia but I knew most of the information before that from Investigative Discovery. Now let’s put all this grim business behind us and enjoy our weekend.
