Ten Things I'm Enjoying About My New Job Part 2

Another week complete. Granted, i only work two days a week but it is still a satisfying feeling. Here are the rest of the reasons i love my job.
5) The building is beautiful.
The building is nice with many open windows and sunlight. My favorite room is the parlour because it is lit by a row of windows and it offers free coffee. They even have two pet birds that fly around a small cage as decoration. There is a piano in one corner and a large TV mounted on the wall. Alexa plays music when we aren’t doing activities. The building also contains a Bingo Room (which we use for other activities besides bingo like poker, Bible study or Shabbat), a media room, a library (where I hold my book club), an infirmary and a back yard. There are probably more rooms I’m leaving out: I just haven’t found them yet.
4) I’m not trying to sell something
I worked in retail for a while and I hated trying to finagle people’s email addresses out of them. No one wants to give out their email address or phone number (even with incentive) but getting them was my job so I had to badger the hell out of people. And I knew we would send annoying emails even if I had to promise we wouldn’t.
3) I’m helping people
In high school I worked as a counselor at a camp for kids with cancer. It was low pay, essentially a volunteer job. But I loved it because I got to help sick kids. I worked with the three and four year olds, a far cry from the population I help today. But I love helping people. Every person I make smile is a reward. I don’t know what my golden years will be like. But I would like the generations after me to help me in the way I am helping now with grace and respect.
2) The warm welcomes of the staff
Everyone at work has been more than welcoming. From the front desk to marketing to the kitchen staff (who make me a different lunch every day) to my supervisor, everyone has been pleasant and they always overlook my mistakes, sometimes offering me advice to help me out.
The warm welcomes of the residence.
I don’t know all the residents yet. I know most of resident’s names at this point and even where they sit at dinner. But I’m more surprised at how many know me. So many people address me by name when I arrive in the morning. One woman remembered I was a writer. Other residents compliment my outfits or compare shoes. They are definitely not shy, is something I’ve learned. And if you express kindness to them usually (not always but usually) they will do so back to you.
