Ten Things I'm Enjoying About My New Job Part One

It’s been a few days (over the span of a few weeks) since I’ve started my new job. I’m not going to say it is without it’s challenges but I will focus on the things I enjoy about it as I get used to it.

10) An extra long relaxing FREE lunch. When I worked at my other jobs my lunch was usually half an hour. At my new job I have almost an hour for lunch with no customers asking me questions as I am trying to get out the door to eat my pizza. I had pizza almost every day for lunch and I had to tell them not to heat it up because by the time it would cool down it was time for me to go back to work. And yes, work at my new job is free and it is excellent. Today I had chicken with sauce and pasta. On the days they make Chinese food, the egg rolls taste like they had come straight from the restaurant.

9) Name that tune. This is one of my favorite games I like to play with the residents. My supervisor will load a playlist of songs on his  phone and play them for residents to guess the artist and song. The songs are usually  between the 1950s to the 1970s but I know a surprising amount of them anyway. Well, maybe not so surprising. My dad raised me on oldies. I had a collection of mix tapes before I turned two (seriously. There are pictures). All I know is that if I was playing I’d be a fierce competitor (although we don’t really compete).

8)  Morning exercises. First thing in the morning I lead the residents through a series of morning exercises. These are not the same ones I put myself through at Retro Fitness but they do help wake me up and I know it’s good for residents to get some movement even if they do it while seated. My co worker puts them through their paces with pool noodles sometimes but other than that the routine doesn’t change much Shoulder rolls. Holding out your hands. Pumping your fists in the air. Since I’m too tired for the gym when I get home from work its the only exercise I’m getting today.

7) ) Free coffee. There’s usually a dispenser in the parlour (aren’t we so fancy? We have a parlour). When there’s a lull in the activity or when its the end of the day or when its lunch I make myself a cup (there’s cream and sugar on hand). I can do anything with a cup of coffee in my hand. Including stay awake.

6) There is always music in the parlour and it is always good! None of this Bad Bunny crap or even pop music that teeters around average. This is song gold. The  Beatles. The Carpenters. Frank Sinatra. Dean Martin. The best of the times and our time can’t even come close. I love sitting in the parlour, talking to residents and listening to music. The best soundtrack for my job.
