She is the person beyond the Leigh Winters persona (which I’m sure all of you already knew). These are the parts of me who make up who I really am.
Catherine the Poet/ Writer: This is the part of me that overflows with ideas and inspiration and usually finishes first at writing groups and not because I’m rushing. I write so much every day. I think this is the biggest part of me. I have to be careful not to lock myself in the “box of poet” I’m many more things.
What’s In Your Closet: Something artsy. Something black with a splash of color like a headband or fingerless gloves. A dash of colored hair.
Competitive Catherine: I can get very competitive. Whether it is a poetry slam or a volleyball game, I’m strategizing and doing my best. I’m a polite loser but I hate to lose.
What’s In Your Closet: I picture myself in tight athletic gear especially leggings that show off my ass.
Flirtation Machine (applicable when single. Which I am not): It’s no secret I love guys. I’ve been in a relationship for over two years and I’m very much in love. But if I’m single, I pull my shirt low, slather on some red lipstick and go to town.
What’s in Your Closet: Tight, revealing, lowcut, clingy- a lady dressed to kill. Sometimes maybe more of a whore than a lady but I’ve gotten better at that.
Catherine Compassionate: This is the giving Catherine. Empathetic. The Catherine that volunteered at day camps or forgives people.
What’s In Your Closet: Sweaty, a streak of dirt, orange body paint for camp Color War.
Catherine the Warrior: I’ve dealt with some real challenges in my life. I’ve worked through these problems for years. Catherine the Warrior doesn’t give in to her OCD. Catherine the Warrior returns again and again and comes back stronger.
What’s In Your Closet: I wear gold metal. It’s light so I can be agile in battle. It shines in the sunlight. I look beautiful
Catherine the Mess: She’s fading from existence. I buried her then danced on her grave. I will never let myself turn the blade on me again. If I feel myself spiraling, I will get help.
What’s In Your Closet: Hospital scrubs.
Currently, all these Catherines play a role in my life. Right now, I’d say I’m depending on Catherine the Warrior to get me through this. There are problems not even Leigh Winters can hide me from. I will keep you all updated.
