So every year my family and I go to Cape Cod for our family reunion. Friends bring friends, cousins bring cousins. I just got back yesterday with a wicked case of sunburn (my bra straps feel like murder). This year I brought my boyfriend for the second time. My brother brought his girlfriend,  my cousins brought their girlfriends and we had plenty of people for games. Our hotel is right on the beach so during the day there is can jam and ultimate frisbee. When it gets dark and windy we retreat inside and play games like Werewolf (werewolf is very popular as are other social deduction games). There is also a pool and a jacuzzi. The towns of Provincetown and Wellfleet are pretty close and they both have stores worth perusing. Anyway, this weekend was golden (sunburn aside). The weather was perfect. And so was the vacation.

Top Seven Cape Moments 2024 (No particular order)

  1. Sing alongs on the beach. I come from a very musical family. We had no less than three bands perform this weekend. Most of them were songs we all knew so we could sing along. My cousin’s cousin came this year with his fiance and they sang opera. Yes, opera. Color me impressed.

  2. Hot tub parties. Sipping (virgin) pina coladas in the steamy hot tub, sharing stories about weird times we’ve been hit on or propositioned was very entertaining.

  3. Killing my boyfriend in a game of air hockey at the lesbian bar.

  4. Shopping in Provincetown. The difference between Wellfleet and Provincetown is that Wellfleet is more of an artsy town (with a million art galleries) versus Provincetown which is very commercial. My favorite stores in Provincetown are Puzzle Me This (a game and puzzle store) and The Shell Shop. I was also tempted to buy some candied crickets just to see who would eat them but I wasn’t sure anyone would so I didn’t want to waste money (Btw I have eaten crickets but I don’t think I would do it again).

  5. Obliterating everyone in Cards Against Humanities. I am weirdly good at Cards Against Humanities. I’m not sure why. My sense of humor isn’t necessarily perverted or dirty. But hey, I’ll take it.

  6. Seeing my brother and my cousins. Originally, it used to be the four of us. My brother and my two cousins. Now one of my cousins is married, the other has a steady girlfriend and my brother and I also bring our SO’s. My brother lives several states away and I hardly see him. My cousins are also pretty busy. I can go months without seeing them. Cape Cod is the perfect place to catch up and strengthen those family bonds.

  7. Okay I saved the best for last. Werewolf. Some people think Monopoly can drive families apart. Well, they have clearly never played Werewolf in which people literally vote to kill off their own brother or girlfriend. I’ve been playing Werewolf since I was 11 but I’m not sure I’m actually good at it. Anyway, as I mentioned before, Werewolf is a social deduction game (also known as a roleplaying game). People lie, people accuse, we get written up for a noise complaint because we are yelling at 2:30 in the morning….oh wait….that part hasn’t happened yet. The goal of the game is to suss out the werewolves and hopefully figure out the other roles along the way. And remember….it’s just a game.
