Why Now?

Ever since I announced my intention to publish Story of Hope, several people (my parents and my boyfriend mainly) have asked “Why now?” After all I wrote this book when I was twenty one. I am now twenty nine. I could just be sitting on this book forever. But I decided to drop everything and make it’s publication my priority.

I think it is because of my new job. I work at an assisted living facility. It is not a nursing home or a senior center exactly but many of those who live there (the residents) are in their 80s, 90s and some are past 100. Some are younger but they are sick. This has opened my eyes to my own mortality. What exactly am I waiting for? The book is edited (save for maybe some grammatical errors). I stopped shipping it off to agents and publishers a while ago. It’s not going to get published just sitting in my drawer yet it still remains one of my life’s goals. But it’s not going to get anywhere if I don’t do anything with it.

Thus the decision to be proactive. I’m going to publish it myself and do all the marketing for it. I’m not an expert on marketing but I’m good at learning. I have The Essential Guide to Getting  Your Book Published and Reddit for guidance. I will have a book launch. My book might not be a bestseller but my story will be told. And then I can move on to conquering one of my other my  dreams (which are all elbowing each  other to be next in line).
