Why We Love Fall (According to JustGirlProject)

I got a clip from JustGirlProject, one of my favorite Instagram channels, about why people love fall. I certainly do. Its my favorite season aside from the Christmas season and that isn’t really a “legit” season (for the people who adhere to that sort of thing). Here are the reasons JustGirlProject listed for why we love fall:
”it feels like a fresh new start”This is probably programmed into us from our school days. It also happens that September is my birthday so it signifies another kind of new year. I’m always looking for ways to change my behavior or begin a new habit/ hobby at this time.
“We tended to feel more motivated in the fall”
So maybe it’s not just people with September birthdays. Maybe everyone sees it as the time to start something (I’m looking at you. No time like the present).
“We crave the comfort and predicability of fall holidays and traditions”
There is a reason Halloween season has begun in August and that’s because we can’t wait any longer. Spooky season has started sooner and sooner because of everybody’s love for skeletons and ghosts. If you start celebrating at a normal time (i.e. October) all the shelves are half empty. Decorations and costumes are scarce. As I publish this, it is already too late. There always do seem to be an unlimited amount of pumpkins and Jack o Lanterns, horror movie marathons and haunted hay rides. And following Halloween (in the United States anyway because I do have viewers from overseas) is Thanksgiving. My parents host Thanksgiving (except the year I was in the hospital) so it’s a big deal in our family with turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing (my favorite), mac and cheese (my second favorite), plus several hundred pies and whatever else people decided to bring. Another holidays Americans partake in is Black Friday, Which I haven’t partaken in every since I had to work that day.
-Cooler temperatures help us think more clearly.
I don’t know if scientifically this is true but my therapists have always advocated a temperature change if I feel like I’m losing control. This may be related. Sometimes if I went outside when it was cold to shoot baskets I’d come back inside ten minutes later feeling much better.
-Many people feel more comfortable in cozy, comfy fall clothes than summer clothes
First of all, I wear alot of orange/red colors so fall is my friend. Summer clothes are awkward when you are my size. Sweaters and cardigans fit me much better, plus there is always the option of layers. Plus in the fall I get to wear the hats I knit!
-Gloomier conditions like rain make us feel nostalgic.
I was born with an extra dose of nostalgia. Therefore when the right weather lines up I feel very cozy and safe. So far, I feel that way today. Its a nice feeling.
