Swept Away Review

Yesterday I had the pleasure of seeing a Broadway show. The show (Swept Away) opens tonight but I got to see the dress rehearsal (which was flawless by the way). It’s about a sailing ship (a whaling ship in the 1880s) that gets shipwrecked leaving four desperate men on a lifeboat. I’m not going to give any spoilers. Well I’m going to give one spoiler: cannibalism. The musical uses music from the Avett Brothers, a folky rock group. My favorite song? Through My Prayers.

Through My Prayers reminds me of a person who has left my life and is not coming back. I think most of us have one of those. We all have words we wish we could say whether it be “sorry” or “I love you” or “why did you hurt me”.  Or “I love you even though you hurt me and I know you definitely do not feel the same” (this is a platonic love by the way. I have a boyfriend).

But back to the musical. It addressed issues such as faith, morality and the way we chart our life courses. And it did it all in 90 minutes. Color me impressed.
